The 12 Special Stars

The meaning and expression of 11 special stars plus the Balance type

Shinsal (神殺) are special energy patterns formed by specific combinations of Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches in the Four Pillars chart. Even the same star expresses differently depending on which pillar it appears in and its Ten God relationship with the Day Master. Four Pillars accounts for this context in its personalized readings.

G01

White Tiger (白虎殺)

Explosive force that overturns crisis

Rare

The White Tiger star activates when the Day Pillar is one of ten specific stem-branch combinations (甲辰, 乙未, etc.). It confers intense, unpredictable energy — the ability to turn crisis into opportunity. Those with this star excel under pressure and push forward where others stop. The downside is impulsivity; patience and planning are essential counterweights.

G02

Goegang (魁罡殺)

Commanding charisma and iron judgment

Rare

Goegang appears in four Day Pillars: 壬辰, 壬戌, 庚辰, 庚戌. It combines the apex star (魁) and the strong star (罡), granting extreme focus and natural authority. People with this star lead instinctively and think in absolutes. Their outcomes tend toward extremes — great success or significant failure — making early momentum especially important.

G03

Blade Star (羊刃殺)

Indomitable will that cuts through limits

Common

The Blade Star forms when a specific Earthly Branch (卯, 午, 酉, or 子, depending on the Day Master) appears in the chart. It represents warrior energy — fearless in competition, relentless in pursuit. When well-directed, this becomes unstoppable drive. Unchecked, it creates friction with those who resist its force.

G04

General Star (將星殺)

Natural leadership that commands the whole

Common

The General Star arises when the central branch of a three-harmony group (子, 午, 卯, or 酉) appears in key positions. It confers the bearing of a commander — people instinctively defer to those with this star for direction. In the month pillar it manifests as professional authority; in the day pillar as deep inner conviction.

G05

Needle Star (懸針殺)

Razor-sharp insight that pierces to the core

Rare

The Needle Star forms when the Day or Month Branch is one of the four cardinal branches (子, 午, 卯, 酉). Like a suspended needle, it cuts through ambiguity to find the essential truth. This star excels in medicine, research, fine arts, and philosophy — any field requiring precision. Managing hypersensitivity is the key growth challenge.

G06

Peach Blossom (桃花殺)

Irresistible magnetism that draws people near

Common

Peach Blossom forms when the branch following the three-harmony of the Year or Day Branch (子, 午, 卯, or 酉) appears in the chart. Like peach blossoms in spring, it radiates a natural charm that attracts. It shines in arts, media, service, and sales. Month-pillar Peach Blossom reads as public charisma; day-pillar as private, personal allure.

G07

Red Flame (紅艶殺)

Deep passion and emotional intensity

Common

Red Flame activates when a Day-Master-specific branch (e.g., 甲→午, 乙→申) appears in the chart. Where Peach Blossom is outward charm, Red Flame is inner fire — a depth of feeling and emotional expressiveness that moves others. Creative writing, music, acting, and any expressive art benefit greatly from this star.

G08

Ghost Gate (鬼門關殺)

A third eye that sees what others miss

Common

Ghost Gate forms when opposing branch pairs (子-午, 丑-未, 寅-申, etc.) coexist in the four pillars. It grants heightened intuition and the ability to sense undercurrents invisible to others. Psychology, counseling, philosophy, and spiritual work are natural homes. High neural sensitivity can cause sleep issues or anxiety, making grounding practices essential.

G09

Flower Canopy (華蓋殺)

Solitary artistic depth and philosophical spirit

Common

Flower Canopy forms when the last branch of a three-harmony group (戌, 辰, 丑, or 未) appears in the chart. It represents a solitary, refined artistic nature — one that pursues mastery over recognition. Religion, philosophy, fine arts, and scholarship draw this star. Its introverted energy depletes quickly in highly social environments.

G10

Wandering Horse (驛馬殺)

Expansive energy that crosses every boundary

Common

Wandering Horse activates when a branch tied to the Year or Day Branch's opposite (亥↔巳, 申↔寅, etc.) appears in the chart. Like a relay-post horse, it never stays still for long — travel, trade, international relations, and sales are natural fits. Change is welcomed as opportunity, and adaptability is a core strength.

G11

Ground Pioneer (地殺)

A trailblazer who roots into new territory

Common

Ground Pioneer is derived similarly to Wandering Horse but appears in the complementary branch position. Where Wandering Horse moves fast and wide, Ground Pioneer moves deliberately and deeply — building something new where nothing existed. Entrepreneurial and exploratory, this star suits founders, researchers, and pioneers in any field.

G12

Balance (均衡)

Quiet, centered steadiness

Balance appears when no special star activates in the chart. This is not a deficit — it reflects an energetic structure with no strong single bias. The strength here is adaptability and consistency: the ability to play many roles well over time rather than excelling in one direction. Steady, cumulative progress suits this type best.
