The Ten Gods (십성)

Ten relational forces between the Day Master and the rest of the chart

The Ten Gods (십성) classify the ten relational forces between the Day Master and every other stem and branch in the chart. They form five pairs: Self (Parallel, Rob Wealth), Expression (Food God, Hurting Officer), Wealth (Indirect Wealth, Direct Wealth), Authority (Seven Killings, Direct Officer), and Wisdom (Indirect Resource, Direct Resource). Each Ten God points toward a distinct aptitude, talent, and life direction — the dominant ones shape which energies define the life most visibly.

V01

Parallel (比肩)

Self

Side-by-side peers — the force of independence

Parallel shares the same element and polarity as the Day Master. It symbolizes self-reliance, individuality, and competition with equals. Those with strong Parallel energy prefer to work independently and blaze their own trail. The drive to own their path makes them natural entrepreneurs and solo practitioners. The shadow side is difficulty accepting outside counsel — certainty can shade into stubbornness.

Self-relianceIndependent pioneeringConfident conviction
V02

Rob Wealth (劫財)

Self

Sharp competitive drive that seizes the initiative

Rob Wealth shares the same element but opposite polarity to the Day Master. Its energy is more aggressive and competitive than Parallel. Resilience, tenacity, and a fierce will to win are its hallmarks. Conflict around money or relationships is possible, but that same intensity produces exceptional results in high-stakes environments — sales, litigation, competitive sports. The key is channeling this force toward the right target.

V03

Food God (食神)

Expression

Overflowing creativity — the joy of making and sharing

Food God is the element produced by the Day Master, sharing the same polarity. It represents the delightful outward expression of one's energy. Creativity, humor, culinary arts, and aesthetic sensibility are its gifts. Doing what you love naturally attracts wealth (the "Food God produces Wealth" cycle). Expression, creative arts, hospitality, and entertainment are natural domains. An excess can tip toward indulgence.

V04

Hurting Officer (傷官)

Expression

Convention-breaking intellect and cutting eloquence

Hurting Officer is produced by the Day Master but carries opposite polarity — sharper and more rebellious than Food God. It challenges established authority and invents new ways. Linguistic precision, analytical power, and a talent for disruption are its hallmarks. Art, philosophy, law, and technological innovation suit it well. Strong Hurting Officer can create enemies through blunt honesty, but that same critical intelligence becomes the engine of world-changing innovation.

V05

Indirect Wealth (偏財)

Wealth

The entrepreneur's instinct for timing and opportunity

Indirect Wealth is the element controlled by the Day Master, of opposite polarity — flowing, dynamic wealth. Where Direct Wealth is a steady salary, Indirect Wealth is business income, investment, and large-scale accumulation. Its gifts are personal magnetism, a wide network, and a talent for seizing opportunity. Commerce, investment, distribution, and sales are natural arenas. Reckless speculation can flip into sudden loss.

V06

Direct Wealth (正財)

Wealth

Steady, earned wealth built through diligence

Direct Wealth is the element controlled by the Day Master, of the same polarity — wealth that is earned honestly and managed carefully. Frugality, diligence, and financial planning are its strengths. Unlike the opportunistic flair of Indirect Wealth, Direct Wealth builds stable success through trust and consistency. Finance, accounting, and asset management suit it well. Excessive Direct Wealth can read as miserliness.

Seven Killings (偏官)

Authority

Fearless command — the general's fierce decisive power

Seven Killings (Indirect Officer) is the element that controls the Day Master, of opposite polarity — intense, demanding pressure. When harnessed, that pressure becomes commanding leadership and decisive action. Results matter more than protocol; crises are where this energy shines. Military, law enforcement, surgery, and athletic coaching suit it well. When balanced by Food God (the "Food God controls Seven Killings" pattern), it becomes a source of fearless, disciplined leadership.

V08

Direct Officer (正官)

Authority

Principled authority built on ethics and accountability

Direct Officer is the element that controls the Day Master, of the same polarity — social order, law, and moral principle. Reputation and responsibility are paramount. It naturally assumes trusted leadership roles within organizations. Civil service, law, education, and corporate management are natural callings. Excess can produce rigidity — attachment to rules over outcomes — but the underlying consistency is the foundation of lasting institutional trust.

Indirect Resource (偏印)

Wisdom

Unconventional depth — the hidden genius of esoteric knowledge

Indirect Resource is the element that generates the Day Master, of opposite polarity. It draws toward unconventional, depth-oriented knowledge rather than mainstream learning. Religion, philosophy, psychology, mysticism, the arts, and alternative medicine are its natural territories. Concentration and intuition are exceptional. The shadow pattern — Indirect Resource suppressing Food God — can block free expression. Its gift is radical originality.

V10

Direct Resource (正印)

Wisdom

Noble learning — wisdom built through study and mentorship

Direct Resource is the element that generates the Day Master, of the same polarity — scholarship, tradition, and accumulated knowledge. Learning and teaching are intrinsic drives; meaning is found in the acquisition and transmission of knowledge. Dignity, patience, and a strong moral foundation are characteristic. A blessed relationship with mother figures, teachers, and benefactors is common. Academia, education, research, and writing are natural domains. Excess can foster dependency or weak follow-through.
